Things To Do on Cape Cod | Family Fun | Cape Cod Travel Activities

I always look forward to a family vacation in Cape Cod!  I had spent nine days with my daughter, charming son-in-law and the grandchildren.

There’s always something fun to do with kids at The Cape, as we New England natives like to refer to that beautiful stretch of sand that extends out into the Atlantic Ocean.

A short drive from Connecticut, we crossed over the Cape Cod Canal via the Bourne Bridge. The Cape Cod Canal actually turns Cape Cod into an island!

I just love when I see this sign greeting visitors to The Cape! It means I’m definitely on vacation, although I really would like to retire to the Cape and live here permanently. Then I’d be called a “washashore.”

We’ve traditionally always take our vacation the first week of July, over the 4th of July Holiday.  Over the years, we’ve visited the Upper Cape at Falmouth, the Mid Cape, which includes Hyannis, and now usually stay on the Lower Cape.  Our favorite towns on the Lower Cape are Chatham, Eastham and Wellfleet.

You don’t always have to spend a lot of money to have a good time on Cape Cod, as there’s plenty of free things to do with kids.

Here’s a few photos of our family vacation:

There’s no admission charge to get in to catch some great baseball!  We took in a Cape Cod League Baseball game in Chatham one night!

My granddaughter enjoys doing some campfire cooking, toasting s’mores!

Cape Cod Activities

Sometime’s instead of firing up the BBQ Gas Grill we’d eat breakfast out on the veranda Cape Cod style of a cute little donut shack with gorgeous Blue Hydrangeas.

We got our toes wet on the beach in Chatham, where Great White sharks were spotted offshore, chasing the seals into the harbor!

Caught what we think is the best place to watch a beautiful sunset in Cape Cod at Wellfleet Harbor after a dinner on the deck of the Pearl Restaurant of local cherrystone clams, chowder and Portugese Kale soup!

My grandson enjoyed visiting Marconi Beach and watching the National Park staff patrol the beach in quads!

Of course, Grandma isn’t dead yet, and while getting a little sun, sand and surf beach time in herself, got caught up on her summer reading list.

We spent some time with the grandkids in Provincetown, enjoying lunch, face painting, visiting the shops and taking photos in the picturesque park on the harbor waterfront.

Every day we’d try to take a nature walk with the grandchildren, there’s so many beautiful views of the ocean and salt marsh, at Fort Hill, in Eastham

I feel fortunate that a Cape Cod vacation is an easy drive and only a few hours away!
