Autumn Decor, Front Door Wreaths
Autumn wreaths often try to take the most beautiful elements of the fall season and to mix them in one tasteful statement. They will often feature the dramatic colors of fall foliage and frequently reflect the country or an "outdoors" look.
During a Fall Harvest Door Decorating Contest, there were so many DIY beautiful creations on many of the Yankee Colonial Doors here in New England!
Autumn wreaths can be based on any number of foundations. Some have found the rustic and neutral look of a grapevine wreath makes a perfect foundation for an autumn wreath. Others may prefer to work from a woodier twig base. You can even start with a basic wreath form (often made of foam and available at craft and hobby stores). If you're a do-it-yourself, crafty type of gal, whatever option's used can work wonderfully as a springboard for beautiful fall decorating.
Don't forget that you can still buy handmade fall wreaths and decorations at many home decor stores and local farmstands throughout New England!
Autumn wreaths and Halloween wreaths can be made from the season's fallen leaves. Such projects, although beautiful, are short-lived as the leaves dry and crack. As such, many wreath makers rely upon silk and other artificial leaves to decorate their wreaths. Accents are often provided by simple homemade bows.
When my daughter got married over Columbus Day weekend in Stowe, Vermont both my sister-in-law and I made DIY wedding table centerpieces out of metal wagons, hay bales, and we took a bow-making class at Joann Fabrics.

Small seasonal decorations (for instance a miniature scarecrow, pumpkins or hay bale) are sometimes attached to the finished product with a glue gun as a way of commemorating the autumn months.
DIY Fall Wreath Crafts
There are no rules or limits one must follow when creating a DIY autumn wreath. The idea is to capture the essence of autumn in the wreath, and that can be accomplished in any number of ways. There are even classes you can take to learn how to make fall wreaths and autumn decorations for your doorstep.
Here is a simple fall wreath I made with DIY craft supplies from Dollar Tree - I bought a bamboo circular wreath - couldn't find the traditional grapevine wreath; about 3 yards of burlap fabric, and a few sprigs of flowers and greenery. I already had my glue gun, so I was good to go! Took me about half an hour. I think it's simple and pretty.

An autumn wreath can be a DIY exercise in creativity and many beautiful decorations have been produced around the theme.
